ABSTRACT
Wittgenstein’s rejection of theory from philosophy has seemed absurd to many readers. What, they may wonder, is this great but perhaps eccentric philosopher talking about? Doesn’t philosophy consist largely of theories? Perhaps, they might say, those remarks are appropriate for what Wittgenstein intended to do, but hardly for philosophy in general.
