ABSTRACT
The number of visitors to many historical sites is increasing. Cities and sites like Bath, Venice, Carcassonne or Mont St Michel are at times overwhelmed by visitors and their effects. This has created numerous paradoxes and conflicts in the management of such cities and sites (see also Ennen, 2006).
