ABSTRACT
The chapter on theoretical approaches regarding shrinking cities at the beginning of this book frames some causes and effects of shrinkage based on theoretical assumptions and possible paradigmatic shifts. This part of the conclusions will—based on the cases previously presented—focus on two theory-related aspects: firstly, the barriers to glocalization, which seem to be apparent in shrinking cities, and, secondly, possible paradigm shifts from growth centered planning to shrinking smart.
