ABSTRACT
While The Americanization of Emily remembers both the Second World War and the war movies it generated, this 1964 film also deftly delivers a picture of its own period. The film captures the Cold War as cultural pressure articulated across consumer society and media spectacle. And it reminds us that these were the vectors not only of the Cold War's ideological discourse, but also of its determinants at the level of everyday life.
