ABSTRACT

Among the various aspects and forms of Japan’s copying traditions, one especially worthy of consideration is kagura. Considered to be the oldest form of ritual, theater and dance in Japan, kagura performances can illustrate for us the characteristics of traditional performances as ‘sacred repetitions’ or ‘sacred copies’.
