ABSTRACT
Papers regarding the effects of degradation factors on the mechanical properties and on the chemical compositions of sealants are reviewed as part of the activities of RILEM technical committee TC139 Durability of Building Sealants. Degradation factors discussed are water, temperature extremes, ultraviolet radiation and ozone. Information on the ageing behaviour of polysulfide, polyurethane and silicone building sealants is presented. Several test methods for studying the mechanical properties and the chemical compositions of sealants are reviewed.
