ABSTRACT

For these reasons, the second half of the twentieth century can be divided into two periods: 1955-911 and 1992-2000. The analysis of the first period will focus on the comparison of Vietnam’s economic development with that of a number of neighboring Asian countries, the discussion of the second period will mainly assess the achievements of the Doi Moi and the positioning of Vietnam in the Asian economic picture. Prior to 1975, Vietnam had a dual economy; therefore the first period is further subdivided into 1955-75 and 1975-91.
