ABSTRACT

What will the experience of the African American community be in the information age? This is a critical question as it appears more and more that the social transformation underway utilizing information technology is permanent, and increasingly redefining standards for social life: literacy, job readiness, upward social mobility, and social power. Most African Americans were not among the early adopters of this new technology and therefore appear to be beginning the twenty-first century in much the same way as the twentieth century, not at the cutting edge of economic development. This reality can be changed.
