ABSTRACT

As a boy I was allowed to entertain myself by wandering around the derelict houses that populated the inner city landscape of Birmingham in the 1960s. This was over a decade before Urban Renewal, Envelope Schemes and planned regeneration changed the face of Handsworth, Aston and Winson Green. The bomb sites and derelict houses provided not only a playground for me but also an education. Even as a child I understood that the built environment affected the way I felt.
