ABSTRACT

Over the last decade Birmingham has undergone a transformation from being a manufacturing centre in decline to an internationally significant focus of business. In parallel the city has become an increasingly attractive place to live and play, with more people returning to previously derelict areas. It is clear from walking around the city that this transformation is far from over. Not only do we have Europe's largest retail development taking shape at the Bull Ring but almost weekly a new major project is unveiled, such as Eastside and the emerging redevelopment of Southside.
