Do electronic databases enable children to engage in information processing?

What can children achieve through interaction with electronic databases? This chapter explores the processes associated with file creation and interrogation. Data handling is considered as a process of critical inquiry, in which pupils actively raise questions, gather information, test ideas and explanations, and communicate findings. The National Curriculum requires that pupils are taught to use computer applications to manipulate data.
