ABSTRACT

The practice of organising IT facilities in an educational institution may seem at first a simple business. You just take some computers, put them on tables in a suitable room and connect them to an electricity supply. Unfortunately, that is not the case. There are now directives from the European Union regarding the installation and use of such equipment in the workplace. There are also curriculum, management, personnel and social factors which are affected by the kinds of decisions that are made about the technology. Behind these decisions there are educational decisions which underpin the way in which the technology is to be used.
