ABSTRACT

The goal of this chapter is to provide information on best practices in conducting a thorough and defensible investigation into allegations of testing irregularities or academic misconduct. It begins with a discussion of “triggers” that may generate a suspicion that misconduct has occurred, then describes the accumulation and evaluation of evidence. The chapter addresses alleged incidents of individual misconduct in paper-and-pencil and computer-based exams, and discusses the unique aspects of an investigation involving misconduct by test administrators and other individuals associated with the test site. A section on investigating misconduct incidents in the classroom completes the chapter.
