ABSTRACT

At the beginning of adolescence, youths are obliged to go to school and, with a few exceptions, all go to secondary forms of education. With increasing age, however, the situations and daily activities begin to diverge. While most adolescents continue going to school in higher forms of education, some don't. Some adolescents enter the job market and find part-time or full-time work; others leave school without getting a job or alternative assignments. Many adolescents have a small job while they are still going to school, while others don't work at all. Some adolescents even have part-time or full-time jobs while they are still going to school. It is highly probable that the course of adolescents' work and educational careers have implications for their involvement in delinquent behaviour. However, it is still uncertain how leaving school and working during late adolescence influence offending.
