ABSTRACT

In this concluding chapter, at the end of a volume of very heterogeneous contributions, we look back from a distance and analyse what the Dutch datasets have to say about the complex relations between employment, education and crime. What is the relation between working and crime in different samples and study designs, and how does employment affect crime when it is combined with going to school or dropping out, and with various levels of school achievement? Is there still a relationship when various confounders are taken into account? In what way are relations between employment, education and crime similar or different for various types of crime or for different demographic categories?
