ABSTRACT

International students are future ambassadors for not only their university but also for the country in which they are studying. The quality of their learning experience is important for the reputation of the university; for maintaining good relationships in higher education classrooms; and for international students’ future careers. Some international students will stay on in the country where they have studied and contribute their skills and knowledge to that country. Most return to their home country and take with them their insights and stories of their time spent overseas. Much of the international student market depends on ‘word of mouth’ contact with friends and relatives at home. Friendships formed will have lasting personal benefits but the mutual cultural understandings formed will have tangible and intangible benefits for future political, economic and cultural relations between countries across the world.
