ABSTRACT

Discussions among people interested in law and literature have taught me many things, such as the word “recursive.” The Dictionary of Philosophy has an index entry for recursive that could also serve as a kind of definition; it says, “see recursive.” There is always the temptation to become recursive in talking about stories. I will seize that temptation. Let me tell you two stories about stories and the law. Behind these stories is my own particular interest in asking what makes a good story, and how do stories relate to the practice of law.
