ABSTRACT

Jack Waterkamp, Director of the Curriculum Development Group at Complex Data Systems, Inc., was feeling upbeat as he walked to the conference room for the Human Resources (HR) division’s monthly meeting. Elizabeth Henderson, his boss and HR VP, had e-mailed a last-minute agenda item, and Jack was certain that it meant a new project for him and his team. He had recently celebrated his two-year anniversary with Complex Data Systems, a $960 million software development company that provided business software systems, classroom-based training, technical support, and annual maintenance agreements to small and medium-sized companies. He smiled as he passed the full-color organizational chart hanging on the corridor wall (Figure 30-1), envisioning his name among the other executives reporting directly to the company president.
