ABSTRACT
Sandra Sanchez has been vice principal of the Los Santos High School, a small urban high school with a diverse set of students, for two years now. Although official statistics are not available, a high percentage of students do not speak English at home. When moving between classrooms, students often speak Spanish with each other; however, school policy does not allow Spanish to be used as part of the classroom interactions, even if the teacher is bilingual.
