ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on the daily-embodied experience of slow food making for touristic purposes by women in Halfeti in the southeast of Turkey. The village gained Cittaslow (slow city) status in 2013 and slow food plays an important role here. In this context, the village is represented within a romantic discourse as a place where women still have all the time in the world for making slow foods. This chapter lays bare the daily-embodied experiences behind the making of these slow foods that are not as romantic as the represented image makes people believe. The daily-embodied experiences in slow food making are compared to its romantic image in order to reveal the changes and non-changes tourism caused on the female body in Halfeti.
