ABSTRACT

This chapter elaborates and compares understanding of the resilience of German tour operators with an assessment of the importance of resilient destinations. In the ideal case, an efficient management of resilience leads to the fastest possible restoration of supply and functionality – both through internal and external resources, which are used in the course of resilience and crisis management. The evolution of resilience requires a dynamic adjustment and development process. Thus, a destination in the strategic context can align its long-term development orientation according to the destination and market potentials with the family goal and thus go through a "double development". The chapter aims to define the use of the concept of resilience for the tourism environment. It demonstrates its different meanings, applications and integrative function in an understanding of the various meanings; a different concept of resilience will emerge for a destination than for a tourism company, such as the tour operator.
