ABSTRACT

The proliferation of technology has changed the ways the people live and learn. First, the people explain why they viewed the introduction of high-quality educational media into early childhood classrooms as an urgent educational imperative; and they provide evidence to support PBS KIDS content as an especially rich and appropriate resource to help the reader meet this imperative. Second, the authors describes the resources they developed to meet that imperative by integrating high-quality digital media into mathematics and science instruction and, supporting teachers' development of pedagogical content knowledge knowing what to teach and how to teach it. The resources, courses, and collaborative learning experiences the people have developed are built on the core tenets of effective professional development and research-based principles on teaching and learning. Guided by PBS' professional learning strategy, the people are continuing to build resources and supports for teachers, with a focus on those early childhood educators who serve America's youngest citizens.
