ABSTRACT

Afghanistan is in a state of flux. It is not that there is political crisis in the country, but the country’s economy is in a critical condition and its security at stake. After the overthrow of the Taliban regime from Afghanistan, billions of US dollars were invested by the international community for the rehabilitation and reconstruction of the war-ravaged country; yet nothing much seems to have changed in the life of the Afghans or in Afghanistan’s economy. At the same time, despite a large number of International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) training the Afghan security forces and providing security across the country, the security of the country continues to remain fragile. This chapter, therefore, will discuss the problems and prospects of the role of external powers in rebuilding Afghanistan.
