ABSTRACT

In the Conclusion the author sets forth the argument that literature itself is now situated within Cultural Studies and hence translation, in recent times, focussing on this symbiotic relation between the two, has emerged as a ‘critical enabler.’ As a result of this confluence of disciplines, there is a felt need for revisiting the terrain of ‘aesthetics’ and to enquire whether the received traditions, both Sanskrit and Tamil (not to speak of the Western tradition), are sufficient to meet the demands of the new writings which are on the rise. Translation, as a nascent critical tool, compels us to address this issue.
