ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the types of survey that used to collect data such as mail, telephone, street and on-site surveys. It designs questionnaires for different types of surveys. The chapter considers reliability and validity aspects when conducting surveys. Primary data can be collected through various types of surveys such as mail surveys, street surveys, telephone surveys, household surveys, on-site surveys and e-surveys. There are many elements that tourism student will have to look before they select the type of survey that they will use for their study. This will depend on: the purpose of tourism students' study: what information students are looking for? the amount of time that students have to conduct for their study; the population they are targeting, hence, the sample size; and the cost. Surveys can include questionnaires, interviews, observations, reports or documentaries.
