ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book explores a number of key issues for play therapy trainees and seeks to provide a valuable resource for therapists at the beginning of their play therapy careers. It outlines some important considerations for anyone considering applying to undertake a British Association of Play Therapists (BAPT)-accredited training programme. The book provides examples of contemporary play therapy practice across the UK, within a wide range of practice contexts. It includes a case example to illustrate play therapy practice within the specific context. The book also provides an account of practice within a Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) and details some of the challenges for practitioners within this context. It focuses focus on work with parents and carers and also explores different approaches to bringing the parent into the therapeutic process with the child.
