ABSTRACT
Proposal writing is inherently a process that acknowledges some sort of problem and can lead students to critically analyze ideologies that shape and sometimes govern communities. It identifies hierarchies of power and populations that are underserved, marginalized, or otherwise oppressed. The Proposal writing is a common core curriculum element of many technical and professional communication (TPC) programs. Skills that students are expected to develop during the proposal writing process include effective writing practices for various audiences, critical thinking, and problem solving. The problem or need statement provides the basis for the proposal and justifies the need to find a solution for a particular issue. The solution in a proposal is presented in several sections: the solution or project description, implementation plan, and budget. When writing these sections, students learn about feasibility. A feasible solution solves a problem and can be implemented ideologically, practically, and fiscally.
