ABSTRACT

In this chapter, the authors provide the best practices and limitations of implementing the journaling program, including required technologies and infrastructure. Journaling allows the development of meta-cognitive awareness and for the construction of personal narratives. It helps residents understand their unique experiences and connect those experiences to their readings, allowing them to better understand. The Journaling also helps to develop their writing skills, giving them the chance to work on an employable skill that would be useful beyond the context of the center. It works as an effective partner to the bibliotherapy program by allowing the residents the opportunity to outwardly reflect on their reading, their thoughts, and their personal experiences, and would further develop their set of employable skills. The implementation of the bibliotherapy program allows multiple avenues for therapeutic outcomes. It provides the residents with the opportunity to reflect inwardly and connect with the books in the library and with the community that the books represent.
