ABSTRACT

Intimacy is presumed to be the height of mutual social feeling and sharing. One must be able both to put forth the self and to care about the other. Such connectedness is the opposite of alienation and its ills. Yet even in intimate relationships, which coupling and marriage are purported to be, there are many issues that arise in therapy. As we work with couples, it would be well to be alert to and understand the variety of problems and issues among couples which inhibit, confuse, or impair intimacy.
