ABSTRACT
How is risk related to value, and in particular to moral value? This has often been discussed by risk researchers and by activists in various risk-related political issues. Increasingly it has also become the subject of philosophical analysis, but admittedly, the philosophical discussion on risk is still at a rather early stage. In this contribution, I will try to show how rich this subject is from the viewpoint of moral philosophy by briefly introducing three major approaches to it. 1 The three approaches are:
clarifying the value dependence of risk assessments;
analysing risks and risk decisions from an ethical point of view;
developing moral theory so that it can deal with issues of risk.
