ABSTRACT

Because of the pressures experienced by present-day international soccer players, stress anxiety has become widely recognised as exercising a major influence on performance. For example, players experience the stress of heavy playing schedules, the competition for team places and the attentions of the communication media. These and other stressors have physical and psychological effects on players sometimes to a career-threatening degree. Accordingly, it is important that the modern player and his handlers become aware of the practical implication of the extensive knowledge which exists concerning stress and performance.
