ABSTRACT

The sum bit-scoring of the Rey–Osterrieth Complex Figure (ROCF; Osterrieth, 1944) has repeatedly been shown to be sensitive to brain injury (Binder, 1982; Hamby, Wilkins, & Barry, 1993; Osterrieth, 1944; Shorr, Delis, & Massman, 1992). Clinical observations suggest, however, that in some cases, it is useful to decompose the ROCF sum score and use the resulting indexes for the evaluation of specific neurocognitive deficits. Such indexes are thought to tap into underlying constructs such as visual spatial memory, graphomotor coordination and planning deficits (Lezak, 1983).
