ABSTRACT

It is widely accepted that the success of any scientific discipline in the 21st century, as that of almost any enterprise, is affected by its ability to rapidly and continuously assimilate and correctly utilize the powerful tools and concepts created by the information revolution. Just as the invention of the printing press in the 15th century led to the demise of the handwritten manuscript and the emergence of the industrial revolution, so did the invention of the modern computer lead to the demise of manual data collection and the emergence of the information revolution. Industries that refuse to embrace new technologies are at risk of becoming obsolete.
