Introduction

Many years ago, New York Times columnist James Reston commented, “The people of the United States will do anything for Latin America except read about it.” Sol Linowitz, a former US ambassador to the Organization of American States, retorted that Americans would read about Latin America. The problem was “reporters will do anything for Latin American except write about it.”
