ABSTRACT

Using quantitative and qualitative analysis, this study examines what Olympic and Chinese image was presented in NBC Nightly News by taking the programs from July 20th to August 24th in 2008 as the research sample. The study finds that NBC Nightly News did not limit its view just on the Olympic Games. Instead, it paid special attention to China's society including politics, culture, environment, history and so on. But most of the reports about China showed critical and negative news tendentiousness. Such kind of tendentiousness was strengthened by the contrast of stories arrangement in the news priorities and frequently appeared soldier images. In order to be fair and objective, NBC Nightly News presented its opinions by facts and quotation, and using different voices to keep the balance of news sources.
