ABSTRACT
The desire to integrate African economies on a regional, and ultimately continental
basis is strong. It is shared by African elites and their international development
partners. Consequently many formal initiatives have been established to further
this goal under the overarching umbrella of the African Union’s plan to achieve a
continental common market by 2028.
