ABSTRACT

Learning to teach, as we all know but often fail to remember, is a complex, bewildering and sometimes painful task. It involves developing a practical knowledge base, changes in cognition, developing interpersonal skills and also incorporates an affective aspect. This chapter represents a preliminary examination of the ways in which teachers, acting as mentors, can most effectively help trainees in this difficult process.
