ABSTRACT

As in England and other countries, Australia has seen a significant shift in the emphasis on the practicum in recent years. National reports on teacher education have opted for the increase of the length of the training or pre-accreditation period and there have been moves to introduce an internship. This move to extend the period in schools represents a shift from a short-term focus on the presentation of individual lessons to a longer-term assimilation and bonding process to the school and its culture.
