ABSTRACT
Religious education (or RE) is an entitlement in law for all registered pupils in schools. Under the requirements of the 1988 Education Reform Act it is required that all county, controlled and voluntary aided schools provide religious education and collective worship. The legislation placed religious education in the basic curriculum of the school and left the content of the teaching to be determined locally, rather than nationally.
