ABSTRACT

Developing a Key Stage 1 policy for your particular subject area is often thought of as being the most daunting of tasks, the cause of many restless nights. It should not be so. The point of developing a whole school policy is that it is owned by the whole staff, describes what is actually happening on the ground and gives some indication of the direction the school is going with regard to your area. A whole school policy can:

publicly demonstrate the school’s intentions in your subject;

help make a case for funding;

give information to governors, parents, inspectors;

provide a framework for planning;

aid coherence, continuity, progression and shape priorities, and;

assist in achieving uniformity and consistency in school decision making.
