ABSTRACT
Key Stage 1 teachers are acutely aware of the need to establish basic skills of literacy and numeracy. In the early stages the aspects of literacy – speaking and listening, reading and writing – are for the most part undifferentiated and taught through a whole language approach. However there are specific issues in reading to be discussed and agreed upon by school staffs when compiling a curriculum policy.
