ABSTRACT
Academic and special libraries offer a greater variety of exciting services and resources for their library constituents than in the past. For example, special libraries build or subscribe to databases designed to meet the information needs of their library patrons and create digital exhibits on the Web in tandem with thematic lecture series. Academic libraries subscribe to a rich array of electronic indexes and databases, full-text journals, and e-books, and offer virtual reference services, instruction by e-mail, and online classes. Library instruction is changing in new and highly creative ways by incorporating aspects of information literacy into the traditional library curriculum. Yet many students and faculty remain largely unaware of these relatively new library services and resources, or are simply content to access a limited sample of electronic resources remotely from their home, office, or dorm. Outreach services designed to promote awareness of the library and to meet the information needs of these constituents are of vital importance to academic and special libraries. This work presents a number of exceptional case studies and models devoted to the delivery of outreach services in academic and special libraries.
