Evaluation-everyone talks about it, but relatively few libraries do it. Evaluate what, when, and how? And who will do it? This article outlines activities and materials developed in Washington state to support a variety of library virtual reference services. It starts with a description of the circumstances under which the work began and the players involved in developing evaluation tools. The discussion follows the evolution of the process and modification of the materials, with the logical progression to testing VET in different types of libraries and the preliminary results of those tests. Three tools and checklists that exemplify the information provided in the manual are included at the end.
