ABSTRACT

The duty-related death of a police officer is a traumatic event for family members and other officers (Violanti, 1996; Green, Lindy, Grace, & Glaser, 1989; Green, Wilson, & Lindy, 1985; Kroes, Margolis, & Hurrell, 1974). Police officers consistently rate duty-related death as the most distressful event in their work (Violanti & Aron, 1994). Parkes (1993) found that murder of a loved one is often associated with anxiety states, panic syndromes, and depression.
