ABSTRACT

The POLITICS system is a set of closely cooperating computer programs that simulate human ideological understanding of international political events. POLITICS assumes either a United States conservative ideology or a United States liberal ideology, and uses ideological beliefs to guide its understanding of and its responses to various types of international conflict situations. POLITICS’ primary raison d’etre is to illustrate, test, and further develop a theory of subjective understanding. The domain of international politics is admirably suited to this task because of the diversity and richness of political beliefs.
