ABSTRACT

Using actor network theory, this chapter considers some of the ethical issues and consequences of using data-based decision making on student equity. Focusing on the ethical component of Khan’s E-Learning Framework (2005), we illustrate the multiple levels of ethical considerations around data-based decision making related to student access to educational resources. Drawing from both K-12 and higher education contexts in the USA, we demonstrate the different ethics of equity within the contexts of recruitment, admissions, advising, and learning opportunities at class, program, and institutional levels.
