ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book is devoted to setting the scene, both in terms of psychodramatic thinking and the rich array of tools for creative action that psychodrama psychotherapists can use. It focuses on the underlying philosophy of psychodrama, and the interplay between this philosophy and the frame of one-to-one psychotherapy. The book also focuses on role theory, an important body of theory that links closely to the philosophical base of psychodrama as well as to the London Centre for Psychodrama’s role analysis approach. It explores psychodramatic technique, in particular the use of concretisation and role. The book gives a brief introduction to specific techniques developed for working with addictions and with dream. It introduces the reader to a number of practitioners drawing upon these approaches in their one-to-one practice.
