ABSTRACT

Deciding whether one is ready to do applied sport psychology work is a critical step in the training process. Trainees must be prepared, have taken the necessary coursework, have gained core competencies, and, most importantly, feel confident that they are ready. Through self-reflection and conversations with trusted individuals, trainees can ensure that they are ready to begin “doing” the work. This chapter will help readers make this crucial decision about readiness to begin by providing information on the appropriate timing of an internship as well as offering several issues and questions to consider in the decision-making process.
