ABSTRACT

The final session of the conference took the form of a panel discussion of the main issues covered during the earlier sessions. There were four panelists - Ray Dafter, Energy Editor of the Financial Times, Dr Walid Khadduri, the Executive Editor of the Middle East Economic Survey, Robert Mabro of St Antony’s College, Oxford and Michael Parker, the Director of Central Policy at the National Coal Board. In the event they concentrated on the significance of the March 1983 OPEC agreement and on the ramifications of the high level of price uncertainty which still persist. The following represents a somewhat edited version of the transcript of their original contributions.
