ABSTRACT

In this chapter, I reflect on some issues of current English language teacher professional development (PD) in Indonesia and how it might be developed to accommodate praxis, particularly in the context of English as a lingua franca. Responding to the problems of the current English teacher PD in Indonesia, I argue that praxis could be achieved if PD activities consistently and extensively engage teachers with the others (be they their colleagues, their interlocutors, or their students). This engagement should embrace not only changing attitudes toward English, but also the teachers’ views of PD and teaching practice.
